A preprint is defined as a version of a scholarly paper that precedes formal peer review and publication in a peer-reviewed scholarly journal.
JSIE allows authors to submit preprints to the journal. An article with a preprint is not treated as a duplicate submission or duplicate publication. JSIE recommends that authors disclose any preprint with the corresponding DOI in the letter to the editor during the submission process. Otherwise, it may be accidentally flagged by Similarity Check, a plagiarism check program. A preprint submission will be processed through the same peer-review process withas a usual submission. If the preprint is accepted for publication, authors are recommended to update the information at the preprint with a link to the published article in JSIE, including the DOI at JSIE. It is strongly recommended that authors cite the article in JSIE instead of the preprint in their next submission to journals.
